How come? Germany picked its side and every country in the world will choose its allies because those that will try to stay aside will be in chaos. Only with allies you can survive and become stronger. The World is changing so change and adapt with it.

we are in troubles here in Germany. I live here now for 30 years and many Germans really don't realize politics. I would say 50% of the Germans do understand, the other half is ignorant. Fact is, our Government is awful, made of incompetent persons.

There are many historic reasons to why many ex-Soviet states wanted to join NATO. Not just them but especially nations like Poland. Just look at what happened to these countries in the late 30s and early 40s.
